Schinkel’s Nightmare – Elgar’s Triumph

From the outside Schinkel’s ‚Grosses Schauspielhaus“ is still an architectural masterpiece. But the inner ‚reconstruction‘ of the building after the burning out – as a concert hall – is dreadful. A shameless fake in the name of Schinkel. One gets goose-pimpels.
Heard pieces of Bridge and Britten. After the intermission: Elgar’s score of his 1. symphony, which was executed lavishly by the Konzerthaus-Orchester under R. Hickox. The hall was half empty. As a critic noticed:“Is Berlin anglophobic?“
