In an overflowing salesroom at the Christie’s auction house on May 13, the bidding for Lucian Freud’s 1995 painting „Benefits Supervisor Sleeping,“ which depicts a naked fleshy woman dozing on a well-worn sofa, reached $33.6 million. The price, a record for the artist at auction, was well beyond the $19.3 million paid last November at Christie’s for Mr. Freud’s 1992 painting „Ib and Her Husband.“
