Behind the Scenes: Edgar Martins Speaks

An essay by the photographer Edgar Martins constitutes his response to the controversy over digitally altered images of his that appeared in The Times Magazine.

‚It is not reality which I have sought to ‘manipulate,’ but its image.

“This work explores the concept of ‘home’ as an idea and a form, and summons a disquieting conjunction of reality, hyper-reality, fantasy and fiction.”

This panoramic photograph was conceived by mirroring the same image and making subtle digital alterations.

“The digitally constructed photos have an important role in the project.“

These long – winded, in-depth explanations of his work do more to confuse than explain what his pictures are all about. To the casual viewer who enjoys looking at photographic imagery, they mean nothing. I am now bored by his work after trying to wade through all that. — Matt
